“It’s not all about pots and pans, but about our health”, “maximizing nutrition through the saladmaster way of cooking,” “improving health one meal at a time.”
Heard about saladmaster? I’ve heard of it before through social media, but I do not know much about it. At first, I thought it was about making a salad or a cooking show. Until last month I had the opportunity to experience what it is all about. My friend here in Portsmouth, Ate Verlyn, and her husband Kuya Gilbert Ganir, held a free cooking show in our flat.

To put it simply, Saladmaster is a cookware. But it is not just an ordinary cookware because it does not have any non-stick coating like teflon. It is constructed from what they call 316 stainless steel that is stabilized with titanium, a premium material that is non-reactive to the acids and enzymes in your food. What that means is that combined with the way we prepare the food and the cooking method, the cookware itself helps protect the purity and flavor of the ingredients for healthier, more nutritious, and flavorful food.
Embarrassing as it may be, I have to admit I do not really cook – haha! In fact, I only started cooking when I moved here in the U.K. However, over the years I’ve heard people talking about all kinds of things about healthy living. From choosing the right kind and amount of food to exercise, drinks and protein shakes etc. ,but I have not heard people talk about the importance of preparing the food and what you prepare it with.


How do we actually prepare our food? How do we cook our vegetables, fish and meat? Most of us either peel them, cook in high heat, boil or use oil in almost all our cooking don’t we? Most people don’t understand the importance of keeping the nutrients intact, and we eventually kill the food, and its nutrients.
Saladmaster is dedicated to helping people learn how proper cookware plays an essential role in nutritional cooking and healthy living. Ate Verlyn and Kuya Gilbert’s presentation was not just about showing the pots and pans nor the food that we ate but it was more of an education as well. It was indeed an eye opener for myself and my husband especially because we are about to start our family.

Verlyn is a nurse and a fellow alumni at my university while Gilbert used to work at a factory and they’ve lived here in the U.K. for more the 20 years now. They both left their respective jobs and are now working full time jobs with saladmaster.
