About Me

I am a Filipino American immigrant, and have lived on three different continents, in three major cultures. I am very passionate about social justice issues, such as sexual harassment, immigrant rights, and homelessness, as well as humaninterest stories in general.

I am aware of the struggles of the poor people in the Philippines, the social justice issues, the revolutionaries during the time of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr., I am a daughter of a religious minister and a survivor of child molestation. The shock treatment of my transition in the U.S., I lived in Los Angeles, a well developed and sophisticated city in the world I had to get used and adapt their culture. And now that I am in the U.K., I am exposed to a whole new world and do the whole thing all over again and integrate all three while maintaining my identity as a Filipino.

I currently host and produce my radio show Effe Barker HUMAN INTEREST at Love Da Beat Radio (LDBR) in London. I want to delve into the daily life of the immigrants here in the U.K.; their ups and downs, their joys and sorrows, their triumphs and failures of being an immigrant here in the U.K. It is my desire that people will have a full grasp of the life of the immigrants and to inspire them to be compassionate and understanding.

In this blog, you will also read about my day to day life here in the U.K., the places that I visit and my past and current life as a Filipino American immigrant in the U.K. Join me as I explore this town, see places and learn more about the life of an immigrant from this side of the world. WELCOME!
