Tie me a yellow ribbon

Surprise! I did not realize we were all wearing yellow today. Was there a memo? I just thought I’d wear my yellow turtleneck top today which my husband got me for Christmas. When we left the house to meet my friend in town I grabbed my little girl’s yellow coat. Lo and behold when we arrived in town my friend was also wearing a yellow sweater.

What a coincidence indeed. It’s only January and we are already wearing yellow. By the way, February is the anniversary of the People Power Revolution in the Philippines, also known as the EDSA Revolution. It was a series of popular demonstrations in 1986 against the Marcos regime. There was a sustained campaign of civil resistance against the Marcos regime which later on led to his departure and the end of his 20 year dictatorship and the restoration of democracy in the Philippines.

I was only 8 years old then but I do remember some of the elements in that era; the famous L sign which I believe signifies the word LABAN which means “fight” in English. Then theres few songs that were played on the radio and loud megaphone on the lory (trucks) that passes by our house. And then theres this yellow color here and there that you can see on the posters on the walls and people wore yellow t shirts. I mean literally you can see yellow color everywhere hence it is also referred to as the yellow revolution due to the presence of yellow ribbons during demonstrations

Incidentally, I just realized this is Ukraine 🙂 “blue skies over golden wheat fields.” Note: That’s not something I prepared as well it is indeed another coincidence but I mean SLAVA Ukraine anyway :-).
