Talking about Finland’s ascension to NATO today, a historic moment and significant one I should say, especially here in Europe. However, historic as it may be, I am more amused with what people say in twitter than the news itself. It is hilarious reading them because despite being meant as a joke they are actually factual.
After NATO’s announcement today, the Russian foreign ministry issued a statement saying that Finland is one of the small, insignificant countries and added that Russia will be forced to take retaliatory measures, both militarily-technical and of another nature…
Twitter tattletales made fun about the irony of his statement. It said that if they see Finland as a small and insignificant country then why would they bother to take retaliatory measures. Also, if they do this, considering the war in Ukraine, don’t they already have so much on their plate right now? On top of that, do they even still have ammunitions left after bombing Ukraine almost everyday?
Another said that Finland will be forced to import 3,000 new tractors in case of a Russian invasion [referring to how Ukrainians tractors dragged Russian tanks at the beginning of the war last year]. Russian threats are so tiresome.
Meanwhile, some say it is the same old Russian style of giving an ultimatum. But by now the world had seen their incapabilities. However, the most hilarious thing I’ve seen is a side by side photograph by @deanegan of a big Russian shark attacking a small Ukranian shark, while the next photo showed the big Russian shark confronted by small and big sharks from different members of NATO. Someone said it is insulting but at the same time factual.

After today’s announcement, a so-called “spontaneous” protest at the U.S. embassy in Moscow was held with protesters wearing blue and red sweatshirts with messages saying ‘Stop NATO’. People say stop from what really? Besides, they say, the fact that they were not arrested for having protest at St. Petersburg means it must have been organized by the kremlin.
Russia is just like the person in a group of friends who fights with everybody, who always wants to be the star, the center of attraction, and causes friction amongst the group. At some point that person needs to be stopped; at some point someone will whip his ass and teach him a lesson.
